Director of Jubilation Choir – Carol Kirchner

Carol Kirchner has served as Director of the church’s Jubilation Choir for 24 years.  Prior to that, she directed the “Fifth Sunday Choir,” which evolved into the present-day Jubilation Choir.  She has been involved in music her entire life and enjoys everything about it – working with the people, the energy that comes with music-filled singers, the praising that music brings to the congregation and other audiences.

Carol attended California State University at Fresno, where she majored in communication and minored in music performance.  But that’s not where her love for music began. She started singing duets with her sister at the Methodist Church in DeWitt, Michigan.  The first song she sang was entitled, “I’ve Got a Mansion Just Over the Hilltop.”  She and her sister took their talents on the road to their grandparents’ Methodist Church in Charlevoix and from there she went on to become a soloist.  While in the sixth grade, she sang her first solo, “Tom Dooley,” where she received a standing ovation.

Carol went on to organize singing groups, beginning in high school, where she founded the “Krispy Kritters,” all the time singing and performing in musicals all four years.  After that she formed the “Coed’s Trio” and took her first directing job with the Grapevine United Methodist Church in Fresno at age 20.  Shortly thereafter, she founded the “Executive Sweets,” a women’s barbershop quartet, plus the West Shore Chapter of “Sweet Adelines,” where she served as director.  She then sang with the “Current Events” quartet, plus “Carol and Carol,” an acoustic guitar and vocal duo.  From there she worked with the “Bob Warnaar Big Band” and directed the “New Day Singers” here at United Methodist Church of the Dunes.

Many people know Carol from her work singing with “Peaches n’ Crème,” where she and two other church members have performed throughout Michigan.  Carol also sang with the “Joyce Pollard Quartet,” plus the “Chancel Choir” in California and here at the Church of the Dunes.

Carol has also sung as part of a trio with her daughters and performed in many musicals with Grand Haven’s “Central Park Players” group.  Carol’s daughters are all talented in vocal and instrumental music, as well, both in their professional and personal lives.  Contact Carol via e-mail:
