Come, join the fun with the UMC-Dunes’ Youth programs!
There are activities throughout the year for fellowship, learning and creating community.
Here is a description of how you can get involved.
All youth grades 6 – 12 are welcome!
SUNDAY SCHOOL: A place for youth to develop a faith identity within United Methodist theology.
There are two (2) Sunday School classes for 6th – 12th grade students:
- Junior High Sunday School (6th-8th grade, 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m in the church “Pit”), taught by Dan Martin and Julie Kelly
- Senior High Sunday School (9th-12th grade, 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m in the Youth Room), taught by Tina Zellman and Wynne Martin
In addition to Bible studies, students focus on learning to live out Christian love. Both classes join together to prepare and create a “Youth Sunday” service.
YOUTH CHOIR: Youth Choir includes 7th through 12th grade students. We sing a variety of styles and utilize the various strengths and talents of the students in singing and instrumentation. We generally sing the third Sunday of each month. Our rehearsals begin after the youth Sunday School – from 12:15 p.m. till 12:45 p.m. We usually meet each Sunday, except on holidays or during Spring Break. Our last performance is on “Graduation Sunday” in June. There is ongoing communication and much input for ideas from the students in arranging or even writing music. It is a real privilege to encourage each other while we practice and join others in their faith during the worship service.
SMALL GROUP: Youth in 6th through 12th grades are welcome to join us for a time of studying God and his Word. We meet from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday’s in the Youth Room. This year we are going to do the study, “Year with Jesus.”
YOUTH GROUP: Almost every Sunday, from 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m., September through May, the Youth (6th-12th grade students) of United Methodist Church of the Dunes meet to enjoy fellowship, join in games and activities, participate in faith practices and journey towards being mature Christians.
During 2015-2016 the Youth Group will learn and participate in numerous activities centered on Books of Bible, and include:
- Feast nights – (a potluck and games for youth AND their families)
- Movie nights
- Service Projects
- Thanksgiving Food Basket
- Holiday Celebrations
Carillon Ringers is a Hand Bell music program designed specifically for 6th-through-12th grade students. It meets the first and second Sunday of each month at 5:00 p.m., just before Youth Group. Anyone can join – and no experience is necessary! As a way of giving back to God, students will share their gifts of music with the congregation on the third Sunday of every month during the school year, starting in October. Need more information? Contact Music Director Jean Schuitman (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Be sure to join the Facebook UMC Dunes Youth Group so you can keep up on all the activities and stay informed.
